I asked my mum what’s so great about being a grandmother, expecting an answer as simple as “why of course, that’s my grandson!”, instead she replied, “because everyone else around me has a grandchild!”
I know my mum hopes I find someone to marry. I will have to disappoint her as I’m not going to get married just because everyone else around my age is married.
As I mentioned previously, my workplace is into big data and quantitative statistics analysis. I am however working on some qualitative analysis which involves reading through the transcripts of interviews. The reading and analysis takes time, I guess that’s why qualitative research isn’t as popular in our field and I certainly get that feeling from my boss. Why did we include a qualitative interview study then if we didn’t intend to give voice to the participants? Because everybody was doing mixed method study at that time, or so I heard.
If you ever find yourself doing something just because everybody is doing it, for heaven’s sake, don’t do it. You’d look silly (watch video below) and as this guy or bloke would say, “Don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd.”
